Tennessee Pass part 1 Almost ghost from Dotsero to Redcliff

Summary

Tennessee Pass part 1. The north or western side of the Tennessee Pass route. Not yet abondoned but in very bad shape. Almost all signals and mechanical parts have been vandelized and there is considerable debris on the track.
This page is the western side of Tennessee Pass. The other page does the eastern side of Tennessee Pass ending in Pueblo. We remember when trains were continually traveling this route and it was hard for us to see it in this condition. Every signal, box and switch has been vandalized. The tracks were in good shape except for the rocks. On the east side (part 3) the signals and such were in good shape. The currently used main line turns at the Dotsero cutoff and heads up the Colorado River on the way to the Moffat Tunnel. A short few miles of the Tennessee Pass line is still used by commercial users around Gypsum but after Gypsum it is very much rusted rail. The yard at Minturn (pronounced Minurn) is waiting for the train that will probably never come again. We remember not long ago there was always a helper idling ready to assist eastbound trains. Now only weeds and garbage remain.

The Gilman siding was in worse shape than the main line. There were boulders on the track.

The buildings at Gilman are mostly locked except for a few and very dangerous. They have not been used for many years and are falling apart. Except for one that had some light we stayed out. One wrong bump and you could find a ton of steel on your head.
